Our dilema: We desperately need some sunshine! That’s why we decided to book a last minute adventure trip to Miami FL for New Years! It turned out to be the perfect destination! Here are some of the things we did for the most adventurous 3 days in Miami.
There are so many things that will make you love Miami! From the parties, palm trees, beach vibe, and street art. It’s easy to get lost- where to eat, what to do for the best experience. A little bit of planning can go a long way to making your trip amazing!
Here is our guide to things to do in Miami FL. But first of all, forget exploring on foot. Miami is a very big city and travel time is something to be taken into consideration. There is plenty of public transportation available including Buses, Uber, Taxi ect.
Day 1- Everglades National Park
It has been on my bucket list for a year or so now and I really wanted to fit it into this trip. We spent the first morning there visiting the EVERGLADES SAFARI PARK.
That was So. Much. Fun! We took an airboat ride through the park and watched a alligator show, as well as got hold a baby alligator.
Our guide was very knowledgable about the area and how to preserve and protect the wildlife.
I highly recommend you buy your tickets online. We would’ve liked to do a private tour of the park but they were sold out when we got there. We ended up taking the Eco-Adventure tour and it still alot of fun!
There is a restaurant on site as well where we grabbed a hot dog after a morning of learning about gators, unique birds, snakes and how to protect the animals and resources of the Everglades.
Viscaya Museum and Gardens
It’s a good 1 hour drive from the Everglades Safari Park to the exotic gardens and architecture of the Viscaya, but it is so worth it! It’s easy to spend good half of a day here.
It’s no surprise why VISCAYA MUSEUM. is a gem in the heart of Miami. We spent the afternoon of the first day in Miami here. If you love antiques and historical places, Viscaya is a must! The mansion is well over a hundred years old with colonial beauty and culture. Mansion built for James Deering in the early 1990’s right on the edge of the water. The grounds have been carefully preserved and showcased.
There is music room with an organ and harp, a study, kitchen, as well as decorated rooms in which the housekeepers stayed, along with all the rooms and decorations that you can imagine in an early 19th century mansion. Try to spot the multi-colored giant lizards outside!
The gardens are stunningly beautiful as well. The carefully created rock designs and formations are simply amazing. The gardens also preserve a large number of important eighteenth-century sculptures representing mythological figures.
We ended our day with a bike ride around Maimi Beach. Along with some beach mall shopping and dinner on the water. Here is list of 10 GREAT PLACES TO EAT DINNER ON THE BEACH!
Day 2- Parasailing
Ok, if you are going to Miami you have experience parasailing over the Biscayne Bay!! We booked with SOUTH BEACH PARASAIL, and they were very accommodating and the experienced. They had to reschedule us to a different location due to the wind, they called in time for us to get the next location and we had an amazing experience!
Wondering where to eat lunch in South Beach? Here is a list of PLACES TO EAT LUNCH IN SOUTH BEACH.
New Years Eve on The Catalina
It’s always fun to save a little time to go bike rinding around the city, to do some shopping, and just hang out on the beach. We wanted to skip the crowds for New Years Eve and opted for NEW YEARS EVE ON A YACHT. This isn’t the cheapest way to spend NYE, but it was a great way to enjoy the New Year with drinks and DJ’s without the crowds! The view of the fireworks from the water was awesome! Just remember that tickets have to be booked at least a couple weeks in advance.
If you are planning a New Years trip be sure to book in advance as much as possible as the city is crowded and the prices go up. If you are planning for any other time of year, the options for boat adventures in Miami are endless but one fun option is the Millionaire’s Row Cruise. This cruise will take you sight-seeing along a luxury route along the water, they also offer drinks and cocktails on board. If you’re looking for nightlife on a boat Island Queen is a goof choice.
Day 3- Beach Chillin’
What’s a trip to the beach if you don’t throw out the towel and just chill? Here is our list of great parks and places to relax on the beach, play a game of volley ball, walking trails, playgrounds for kids. LUMMUS PARK has it all. We ate breakfast at Havana Cuban Cuisine. Here is a list of eats near Lummus Park.
We spent day three driving down to Duck Key and that’s where we spent the next three days of our 6 day trip. Learn about our adventures on the Keys here.
